The construction sector manages risk every day, but little is known about how risk management practices impact the productivity of the sector. A recent BRANZ-funded survey of the construction sector looked at the impact of a range of risk factors on project errors, delays, and productivity. Survey respondents were also asked about how they manage risk and uncertainty.

From 2021 the Building Code will be updated annually, with only two keys dates for the sector to remember. Consultation will open on the first Monday in April, while changes will be published the first Thursday in November. These dates were chosen to avoid conflicting with school and summer holidays.

More than 200 construction jobs will be secured in Taranaki through Government funding for a school expansion project. Green School New Zealand will be supported with $11.7 million from the $3 billion set aside by the Government for infrastructure in the COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund.

On Wednesday evening the government announced four community-transmitted cases in Auckland. The wider city of Auckland has moved back into COVID-19 Alert Level 3 and the rest of the country to Alert Level 2. In Auckland, construction is able to continue as long as those onsite strictly adhere to Alert Level 3 protocols and hygiene. For the rest of New Zealand, work can continue with Alert Level 2 protocols reinstated.

The NZIOB National Office staff have been busy working with our IT developer to build a new event registration system onto our existing member database. Instead of being directed to an external third-party website to register for an NZIOB event, members need only log in to the member portal, scroll through the list of events, click Register, and then the registration form will autofill with all your details. Easy!
