Construction boom triggers workforce demand forecast

Work is underway by the Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO) to get a better picture of the number of construction and infrastructure workers needed by the construction sector over the next 15 years. The research project will forecast workforce demand to cover residential and commercial construction as well as civil infrastructure like roading, three waters (drinking, waste, and storm), hospitals and schools.

The number of female apprentices working in the male-dominated trades (such as construction) more than doubled this year, from 845 last year to 1785. This has come as part of a broader spike since the Labour-led Government made all apprenticeships free in July this year, part of an effort to stimulate the economy after the Covid-19 outbreak. Southern Region Golf Day

The annual Southern Region Golf Day was held on the 6th of November in Christchurch, with 30 teams and over 100 players in attendance. Blessed with fine weather, the day went off without a hitch, with hole sponsors adding another layer of fun to the day by hosting activities and competitions at their respective holes.
