Description
SITE VISIT | WELLINGTON | CPD :3
The Living Pā, the redevelopment of the marae precinct at Victoria University, is about connecting to the past to inform our future – when complete this will be Aotearoa’s most sustainable educational facility.
As a purpose-built living lab, the Living Pā will be an incubator for innovation, and a place for multiple communities and disciplines to come together to discuss how we can build a more equitable, fair, and sustainable society.
Hear from the LT McGuinness project team as they take you around The Living Pa redevelopment for Victoria University Wellington.
The project proposes a new three-storey innovation hub at Te Herenga Waka Marae, Victoria University of Wellington. As an extension of the marae, and joining the wharenui, Te Tumu Herenga Waka – the Living Pā, will be a place where many people can come together to explore how we can build a more just, and sustainable world.
The Living Pā is striving to achieve full Living Building Challenge certification. The team working on this project aim for the building system to push our understanding of green buildings and to transform how we think about buildings in the future.
Sean Irion, Institute of Building Central Committee member has visited the project before and was blown away by his visit:
“Sometimes a construction project can be inspirational. They can be inspirational in design or in how they are constructed, and sometimes in both. The Living Pa, a redevelopment of Victoria Universities marae precinct, is a truly inspirational project in almost all regards.
Working towards the Living Building Challenge, the Living Pa is a beautiful and ground-breaking example of sustainable design and construction. This project could only be produced by one of our country’s biggest construction companies, but LT’s icebreaking this space allows others to follow.
Personally, I found visiting this site gave my hope for the future of humanity, it improved my wellbeing, and I may even have become emotional and shed some tears (but that was in the privacy of my car afterwards).”
This site visit is free for our members however if you wish to donate to the living pa project you can do so here.
