More about the Court Theatre Project:
"Construction of the Court Theatre began in May 2023. The new building consists of 2 main theatre spaces and 1 rehearsal/education space and includes associated front of house bar/dining area, feature foyer, rehearsal and dressing rooms, administration and stores and a comprehensive workshop space for making sets/props. The Ground floor Footprint is approximately 1600m2 and the main theatre seating capacity is 377.
The building has been designed with sustainability as a critical driver which is manifested into a highly insulated envelope, utilising feature timber construction and passive-assisted ventilation to the main auditorium as a key element.
The building is structured around the main auditorium, placed at the centre of the building which is ringed by spaces to all sides and multiple mezzanine levels. Expressed timber structure is used to support the triple height foyer space opening up to Gloucester Street creating an inviting sophisticated ambience.
It's constructed upon a reinforced concrete raft with precast walls bounding the full height of the main auditorium and partial height precast walls are to the Colombo Street edge. It's complimented with a mix of steel and engineered timber components and used in conjunction with a precast concrete first floor.
There are a several striking external features with new concepted Corten steel façade elements along with traditional cladding materials profiled.
There will be several hospitality areas, including a box office to collect tickets and book shows. Specialist Theatre engineering and equipment will complete the theatre spaces and provide a new chapter in the Court Theatre’s productions."
