Description

Concurrent Delay Demystified - Abstract

Concurrent delay is one of the most familiar yet least understood concepts in construction contracting – and for good reason.

Discussions frequently descend into subjective arguments about “fairness,” driven by opinion, bias, or emotion rather than evidence.

In this practical 50-minute presentation, Karsten Thomsen of Timewise Limited uses first principles thinking and straightforward programme demonstrations to cut through the confusion.

It is designed and targeted for Contractors, Principals, Engineers, and Consultants who want to replace guesswork with defensible, programme-based analysis.\

Drawing on real-life construction experience in New Zealand, he clearly explains what concurrent delay actually is, why it matters, and who needs to master it.

Participants will learn how to distinguish delay analysis (entitlement to time / Extension of Time) from concurrent-delay analysis (entitlement to cost compensation) and will see exactly how to prove or defend concurrency using the Critical Path Method, the latest unimpacted and impacted programmes, and contemporary records.

The session is firmly grounded in NZS 3910, the Society of Construction Law Delay and Disruption Protocol (2nd Edition), and AACE International Recommended Practices. A Q&A session followed by networking will conclude the presentation.
