Guest Speaker:

Built by impact. Driven by adversity. Rolling forward.

A wheelchair rugby international, a proud dad, and a speaker who brings the raw truth of resilience to the stage.

Cody Everson has been a highly respected player for the New Zealand Wheel Blacks team (Wheelchair rugby).

Cody was 15 years old when he sustained a spinal injury because of a rugby tackle in a game of 1st XV. As a result, he is a tetraplegic and has lost use of his legs and has limited movement in his hands and arms. After six months in rehabilitation at Burwood Hospital in Christchurch, Cody was determined to get back into sport. He started playing wheelchair rugby with the Canterbury Wheelchair Rugby Club in 2012. Just two years later, he was selected for the New Zealand Wheel Blacks.

He's since travelled with the team all over the world for international tournaments, including the most recent Tokyo Paralympic Games. Since returning from the Paralympic Games, Cody married his beautiful wife, Jess. They have been through IVF and have welcomed their sons Emilio and Deluca into the world.

Cody is an avid advocate of improving spinal services and supporting clients and persons within the community. His message is simple: My desire is for people to leave the room with the knowledge that no challenge is too big. That they will gain an understanding of my process for achieving success through adversity and will find motivation and inspiration to strive to be the best they can. Don't let what you can't do affect what you can do.
