Description

WEBINAR

Did you know?

  • Half of construction industry entrants come from outside the sector and are typically over 24 years old.
  • The industry is currently facing economic pressures and rounds of redundancies, meaning many people are reconsidering their career options.

To address these challenges, the Built Environment Career Streams project has developed a suite of resources to help individuals and organisations navigate career development in our sector.

Whether you’re new to the industry, supporting new entrants, considering a career change, or in a leadership role responsible for career planning, this webinar is for you. We’ll introduce practical tools and insights to help you navigate and support career resilience and growth.

Join us as we launch the Built Environment Career Streams resources, developed by Building Institute Aotearoa in partnership with the University of Canterbury’s Building Innovation Partnership, and supported by the Construction Growth Foundation.

Using the he awa whiria (braided river) metaphor, this work moves beyond traditional linear career thinking to show the interconnected pathways construction professionals navigate including multiple entry points, specialisations, transitions, and leadership roles across:

  • Project planning and oversight
  • Design and consultancy
  • Construction delivery
  • Building operations

Speakers:

  • Kathryn Davies – Research Fellow, University of Canterbury (Project Co-Lead)
  • Pamela Bell – Professor of Practice, Victoria University (Project Co-Lead)
  • Amanda Stanes OStJ CFRE – General Manager, Keystone Trust
  • Tony Howard – Construction Manager, CMP Construction
  • Tracey Standring – People & Culture National Manager, Hawkins
  • Alex Doyle – Project Manager, The Building Intelligence Group

They will be sharing:

  • A career map for the Built Environment in Aotearoa New Zealand

  • Eight career stream guides for roles including architecture, engineering, quantity surveying, project management, construction management, building compliance, BIM management, and building operations

  • A comprehensive project report with insights from industry interviews
